We build the partner
we wished we had.
Diorite is a small team of guides, engineers, forecasters and designers in Boulder and Chamonix. We spend our weekends in the mountains and our weeks making them a little more knowable.

Why "Diorite"
A hard, speckled igneous rock: black and white, never one or the other. Like good mountain judgment.
Three forecasts.
One storm.
In August 2022, Elena and John were on the Lower Saddle of the Grand Teton when a storm arrived four hours before any forecast said it would. They had checked three. Each was right about something. None of them told the whole story. On the hike out they sketched the tool they wished they had carried: one that read everything, reconciled it honestly, and stayed useful without a signal.
A storm on the Grand
Our founders get pinned on the Lower Saddle by a storm three forecasts disagreed about. The idea starts in a tent.

Four rules we climb by.
Respect the mountain
Every feature is built with care for the places we love and the people who explore them.
Show our reasoning
The best partners explain their thinking. Every answer shows the sources and logic behind it.
Earn the weight
Like anything in a pack, every feature must justify itself. If it does not help you decide, it goes.
Go outside
Every Diorite employee gets 20 field days a year, paid. Our best ideas come from the trailhead.
